On March 17, 2025, Shizuoka Prefecture decided to charge 4,000 yen per person as an entrance fee and set up a registration point at Mt. Fuji Station 5 for climbers.

Both Yamanashi and Shizuoka offer access to Mt. Fuji. Many climbers start from the station 5 at night and hike through the night to reach the summit. Others attempt the climb with inadequate gear, leading to frequent cases of hypothermia and accidents.

To address these issues, Shizuoka and Yamanashi will set up registration points at the 5th stations of the Fujinomiya, Gotemba, and Subashiri routes. They will charge an entrance fee of 4,000 yen per person and require climbers to register their names and other details.

Additionally, entry will be restricted from 2 PM to 3 AM. Yamanashi, which previously charged a 2,000-yen access fee, will align its policy with Shizuoka.

Climbing Mt. Fuji now requires proper planning, as new rules aim to improve safety. Make sure to plan thoroughly for a safe climb.
